Otom Tick Remover

Otom Tick Remover

£5.00

It is essential not to compress the tick during removal, reducing the risk of saliva back-flow, that can lead to infections and/or allergies.

Tweezers and other instruments exert a pressure on the tick. The shape of the O’TOM/ Tick Twister, designed by a veterinarian, takes into account the tick’s morphology.

Tick’s mouth-parts are covered with backward directed projections; this allows the tick to anchor in the skin. By pulling up on the tick, the spikes will rise and lock the mouth-parts into the skin. The tick may break and leave parts in the skin causing infection. By twisting motion, the spikes fold into the axis of rotation, and the tick is easily removed, without traction, decreasing the risks of breaking the rostrum. The O’TOM/ Tick Twister removes ticks by rotation and not by pulling; among all instruments supposed to use rotation, it is the easiest to use because of its shape and its size

Norrona Forelhogna Flex 1 Pants

Norrona Forelhogna Flex 1 Pants

Mark Turner 30 March 2010

These trousers are excellent for all day long three season backpaking. The stretch material is wind/showerproof and extremely comfortable to wear. The design is close fitting with five zipped pockets which i have found to be very useful along with the velcro adjustable waistband and ankle snap adjusters. They have so far proved faultless. Highly recommended.

Stealth gear Extreme Photographer Smock

Stealth gear Extreme Photographer Smock

When I originally heard of the Stealthgear Extreme Photographers Smock, I was intrigued, but more than a little skeptical. Most jackets that are supposedly designed for photographers turn out to be made for shooting/fishing with a few extra pockets and are either too light for the job, or too uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. They certainly don't allow for all the extra bits that photographers always seem to need to carry in pockets rather than camera bags. However, I have been pleasantly surprised.
First off, the smock is well put together. Everything is well finished, and the materials are heavy enough to give the right amount of toughness without being unwearable. True, it is heavier than your average walking jacket, but wildlife photographers spend a lot of time sitting around not moving much, so this is actually a good thing. On trying on the smock for the first time, I found I had to go for a size larger than normal. While being no midget, I'm not exactly huge so this was unexpected. Try before you buy.
Secondly, the smock has a lot of pockets, all of which are really easy to get in to. They all have a function too. The main chest pocket is free floating at the bottom, which allows you to fasten a rucksack waistbelt behind it. This allows lenses etc. to be carried with no interference. On the same vein, padding in the shoulders allows for heavy bags to be carried more comfortably. As a professional photographer, my bag weighs more than most and I've found this to be a godsend.
The smock is wind and waterproof and comes supplied with 3 hoods. The standard one, a midge hood, and a 'dark' hood, designed to work like a dark cloth on original plate cameras. For modern digital SLRs, this allows clear views of the rear lcd regardless of light conditions.
To summarize, the smock is warm, dry and comfortable to wear. While at first seemingly over engineered, all of the accessories do what the label says. Any outdoor photographer looking for a water/windproof jacket would do well to consider this one.
Pros
Very comfortable to wear.
Extremely wind and water resistant.
Pockets and other accessories well thought out.
Cons
Sizing is somewhat undergenerous.
One seam holding the chest pocket to the body of the jacket unraveled shortly after purchase. However, this is not vital to the jacket performance and I'll worry about it if the pocket falls off.

Norrona Svalbard Cotton AnorakNorrona Svalbard Cotton Anorak
I got the bungee cord colour and love it. Looks as much at home in town as it does in the wilds. Quite good windproofing. Ideal for windy dry weather. A looseish fit which helps when you are donning/doffing. Not too loose though - stick with your normal sizing. I was wearing this over the Finnskogen Warm 4 fleece in fairly stiff breezes at 2-3 Celcius and was pretty cosy while walking. Nice detailing. Zips on the two hand pockets and a zip across the kangaroo pocket, which also has a small slot sewn in to let you pass a headphone cable on the inside. The kangaroo pocket is quite shallow which I found good it keeps your valuables in a nice place (up high) when you pick up the pace. Very good quality fasteners (snap and zippers) and fittings. Fabric is quite a close weave and feels like pure quality. I didn't get it soaked but this seems to dry quite quickly after a shower. (I suppose this would depend on humidity of the climate you find yourself in). I would buy another if this one were to accidentally bite the dust somehow.

Norrona Svalbard Cotton Pants

Norrona Svalbard Cotton Pants

These are a quality pair of pants. Bit lighter than a pair of jeans but more windproof. Quite a tight weave fabric that feels nice against the skin. Nice fit around the waist and arse and a bit looser on the legs not too baggy though just right for easy movement. I should have gone for a different colour though the phantome is a funny one kind of a dark reddy brown (I think). I wouldn't be too worried about that as I am, in fact, colour blind so pinch of salt. Brilliant set of pockets two zippered front hand pockets, two buttoned rear pockets, zippered left front thigh wallet pocket, right leg cargo pocket with a small inner mesh pocket up high that fits my phone perfectly. Recommended.

Norrona Dovre Heavy Duty Hybrid PantsNorrona Dovre Heavy Duty Hybrid Pants
Words cannot adequately express how awesome these pants are. They feel bombproof. Very heavy duty fabric but tailored in such a way that they allow you to move very easily and they feel light on. Arse and knees waterproof so you can sit on a wet log and not have wet arse syndrome. The Norrona braces slot into little fabric holders inside the waist. Used with a belt and braces you can comfortably carry more on your belt without your pants coming down off your hips. Great waist band velcro adjuster for when you are not wearing a belt. These feel great on. The thigh vents allow you to cool down rapidly when you are working hard good quality zips. Pockets are secure and very well thought out. Probably a bit too warm for the summer months, but with the vents...and depending on where you are... Would absolutely recommend these as a tough, all round, outdoor trousers.

Norrona Svalbard Cotton Long Sleeve Shirt

Norrona Svalbard Cotton Long Sleeve Shirt

A nice light shirt for summer. Quite a loose fit I am normally a medium and should have gone for a small. If I had paid attention to the neck sizing this would not have been a problem. Neat zipped chest pocket for wallet etc. and handy clips to keep rolled up sleeves rolled up. Feels nice against the skin even on the hottest days I have been out in (26 Celcius). Could probably get a similar shirt for cheaper, but this is the first time I have come across this wood fibre fabric which is kind of interesting in itself. Very comfortable. Am considering buying another in the Sulphur in small...

Norrona BracesNorrona Braces
Light. Nice wide brace for comfort. Neat attachment system works well with my heavy duty hybrid pants (little horizontal plastic lugs fit into small loops in the trouser waist) and allows me to carry extra stuff on my belt without my trousers falling down. What more can I say?

Meindl Jagd Socks

Meindl Jagd Socks

A sock for hunting. The best long sock I have ever owned. Fits beautifully, tough, comfortable, great length and stays up the first time I have had knee length socks that actually stay up and without cutting off circulation to my lower leg. Looking forawrd to using these again in the winter.
